Energy Companies Obligation - ECO

What Is ECO?

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) is a government energy efficiency scheme running since 2013.

The scheme was introduced for the largest energy suppliers to help make British households more energy efficient and tackle fuel poverty. Offering householders who qualify and have a need for:

  • Funded Boiler Replacements Click Here For Pricing

  • Free Cavity Wall Insulation

  • Free Loft Insulation

  • Free Under Floor Insulation

  • Free or Part Funded Internal Wall Insulation

  • Free or Part Funded External Wall Insulation

  • Free Or Part Funded Heating Upgrades

How ECO works

Under ECO, the energy efficient measures are funded by the larger energy suppliers in British households.

The target set for each obligated supplier is based on its share of the domestic energy market in Britain.

Free & Part Funded External Wall Insulation

Working with installers the obligated energy suppliers install certain efficiency measures into your homes, such as loft and cavity wall insulation or heating measures such as boiler and storage heater replacements.

The two main obligations to the scheme are:

The Home Heating Cost Reduction Obligation (HHCRO), also known as the Affordable Warmth Obligation, is aimed at low-income households. Energy suppliers promote measures such as loft or cavity wall insulation and heating measures that will lead to financial savings on energy bills.

You are eligible to receive the ECO incentives if you receive at least one of the following benefits and satisfy the relevant income requirements, where applicable:

  • Universal Credit

  • Tax Credits (Working Tax Credit)

  • Disability Living Allowance

  • Personal Independence Payment Attendance Allowance

  • Carer’s Allowance

  • Severe Disablement Allowance

  • Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefits

  • War Pensions Mobility Supplement

  • Constant Attendance Allowance

  • Armed Forces Independence Payment

If the tenant is not in receipt of any of the above awards, we would seek approval from the Local Council under the LA Flex Scheme.

Can I benefit from ECO?

In order to benefit from ECO you must own your own home or have the permission of your landlord. You can benefit from ECO regardless of whom you purchase your energy from.

Through the ECO scheme, many a household has benefited from having more energy efficient homes and in some circumstances, lower energy bills.
